UPDATE 7TH AUGUST, 2014 - EXTENSION TO DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF COMMENTS
In June 2014, the MCA published for consultation its proposed changes to the spectrum allocations and licensing regime for radio microphones due to the introduction of wireless broadband services in the 800 MHz band. This consultation ended on 2 July 2014 as indicated hereunder. The MCA has evaluated the responses received and would like to receive further comments from additional stakeholders prior to making its recommendations to Government.
In this regard, the MCA is hereby extending the period of consultation of the aforesaid consultation until 29 August at 12:00hrs.

Traditionally, radio microphones use spectrum allocated to terrestrial television broadcasting services. This is also the case locally where such equipment primarily uses the 854-862 MHz band.
Decisions taken at an international level led to the harmonisation of the 800 MHz band (790-862 MHz) for wireless broadband applications and the imminent use of this band by these applications is expected to impact the current spectrum management environment for radio microphones.
The MCA is therefore publishing for consultation its proposed changes to the spectrum allocations and licensing regime for radio microphones due to the introduction of wireless broadband services in the 800 MHz band.
Deadline for submissions is Wednesday 2nd July at 12.00hrs.
