Malta Grants EchoStar Mobile an Earth Station License

The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) has recently granted a license to EchoStar Mobile Limited to establish a satellite earth station in Malta. Ireland-based EchoStar Mobile Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), a premier global provider of satellite and video delivery solutions, headquartered in the United States.

MCA Chairman Dr. Edward Woods said, “This is the first satellite earth station license to be issued in Malta. The Authority trusts that EchoStar Mobile’s activities to develop Malta’s involvement in the space sector will yield positive results.”

The satellite earth station to be established in Malta will be used to calibrate the 2-GHz-band satellite, EchoStar XXI, for the provision of next generation Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) throughout the European Union.

“We are pleased to have been granted this earth station license from the Malta Communications Authority for our EchoStar XXI satellite, scheduled to launch in 2016,” said EchoStar Satellite Services President Anders Johnson. “This is another step in our plan to deliver the European Union’s first next-generation, all-IP-enabled mobile communications network with an integrated mobile satellite and terrestrial system.”
